In-Class Assigment

Please answer the following questions for your first entry:

1. Please introduce yourself.

My name is Muhammad Syafiq bin Mazlan. My ID number is 2006146019. I am from Temerloh Pahang. Currently, I am a Tesl student and takes Counseling as my minor subject. I have already done my practicum last semester in High School Klang and there are many useful experiences there.

2. How would you rate yourself in terms of your computer skills and why? (e.g. expert, novice, savvy, geek, illiterate etc)

In answering the second question I perceived myself as a savvy individual regarding the subject matters. I can learn to use the teachnology when there are some drives force me to do it or otherwise I have little interest in learning the teachnology that I'm not familiar with.

3. What computer software and hardware knowledge do you have?

There are so many softwares that have been created and used by different kind of users all around the globe. I have known technology since I was 12-years old but and at that time there were not much to be learnt as I was just a little boy back then. Then I've started to expose myself to the technology afterwards. I have the knowledge of using simple softwares rather than using complicated softwares that required me to do some reading for the purpose of understanding how the softwares actually work. Despite that, I have quite some knowldege on how to use the complicated software. The basic software such as Words or Excel are very easy. Meanwhile for the hardware, I only have the knowledge of the subject rather than understanding how it actually works.

4. Have you experienced learning via the computer (online, etc)?

I have never expereinced that lind of learning system due to the limited access to the internet. Anothereason is that I have little interest in learning via the computer or online learning as i prefered to be taught directly in the two ways communication between the teacher and students.

5. Did you try to incorporate technology in your some of your lessons during your practicum? Was it a success or a failure? If you did not what was/were the reason(s)?

No. i have never tried to incorporate technology in my lessons during my practicum due to the fact that the school have limited facilities of technology and most of the room that can be used have already been taken by the teachers there. However, I have considered to incorporate technology in my lesson during practicum.

6. What is your opinion on the use of computer/technology in language teaching?

I believed that by using computer or teachnology in language teaching will surely help the teachers the reduce the difficulties that the language teachers have to overcome in every language class. It is very useful especially for nowadays students where their skill of using the computer are better compare to myself during my time. However, there are some drawbacks of using the computer/technology in language teaching where it may disrupt the learning objectives of the lesson. This matter should be taken seriously by the teachers who use the computer/technology in the language learning. In my personal opinion, if the teachers manage to control the classroom effectively and have various kind of interesting activities this matter should not be the major concern at all.

7. What are your expectations from this course?

I believed that this course will surely enhance my performance of using the technology which in this context is specifically towards the use of the internet technology. Therefore, it will surely increase my teaching ability as I will be able to use the technology in the classroom. I hope that I will be able to remember everything that have been taught and put it into practical so that I will be more efficient and flexible in using the technology in language teaching. Last but not least, I hope that I will gain a lot of knowledge regarding the technology that can be used in language teaching.
